PERIODONTAL DISEASE

healthy gums Advances in dental products and technology have made the provision of quality dental care easier, quicker and more affordable than ever before.

A pressing concern in current dentistry is our ageing population, and how to meet the needs of this important age group- many of whom have been put off attending dental visits because of traumatic experiences in the past.

Preventative programmes are important to ensure that small dental problems do not become bigger ones. Regular visits for professional tooth cleaning prevents the onset of gum disease- which has been known to cause premature tooth loss and has been associated with general health problems (like heart disease and diabetes) in those that suffer it.

Special therapeutic pastes are now available that, when used regularly, can change the quality of a persons saliva so that there teeth are less likely to decay or become damaged when enjoying an acidic drink (like a glass of wine or cola), as well as repair early decay and alleviate the need for fillings.

Technology is now available to fix fractured fillings 'while you wait' with strong, white, porcelain restorations that previously had to be made in a laboratory, alleviating the need for extra dental visits.

Missing teeth can now be replace not only with removable plates and bridges, but with porcelain teeth anchored directly into the jaw bone using titanium dental implants-providing teeth that look and feel like natural teeth, and don't have to be removed day-to-day.

As adult orthodontics has become increasingly popular, teeth can now often be straightened without braces, using the Invisalign system. Patients receive a new transparent mouthguard once a fortnight that applies pressures to teeth that are out of alignment, and gradually moves them back into the correct position.

Cosmetic needs can be met with a combination of treatments, including whitening of the natural teeth, or bonding false ceramic facings or 'veneers’ over discoloured teeth to give them a whiter, straighter or more natural appearance.

In addition to taking the Utmost care to provide gentle dental care, sedation is also available to make dental visits more bearable for those with extra dental phobia.

The enthusiastic teams at Mt Pleasant and The Strand Dental Centres are eager to meet you and together we can work to deliver personalised care to fit your unique needs and concerns.
